Sunday Sketch and Stamp - Challenge # 5

Hi! I am BRAND new to trying this... but thought I would give it a go!

I was directed over to Sunday Sketch and Stamp by my friend, Barb at Made For Keeps. They give you a sketch and you need to create a card using the sketch as your starting point.

Below shows the sketch and my creation! Be sure to let me know what you think!

This card will be for my friend, Sharon, on her birthday. (It is coming up! I don't think she checks out my blog, so the surprise will not be ruined... I hope!)

I know I couldn't make a card beautiful enough to be as beautiful as my mom is... but this is what I sent her this year.

Happy Birthday to Music!

I finally get something to post (it has been a while!) and then I have a not-so-good photo of it!


This is a card I made for my mom to give a friend for his birthday. He is a pianist... and he used to play in Hollywood back in the good old glamor days. (Merrill Sparks) So, I used soome music to start my idea: Chopin's "The Wish"


I don't know the song... just Googled some sheet music for free and came across it. I took the word "wish" from the title to make the brad. The background ornate frame is from scrapbooking paper I had (thanks to my sister-in-law and her Christmas gift to me one year... thanks, Jo!) and the rest is pretty straight forward.


Maybe I will get going again here... I will need to get rockin' on some Christmas cards soon!

More Inspiration

The above photo shows a card made by my friend, Jaimie. She is also the greatly-mentioned-in-this-blog Stampin' Up! demonstrator that I know. From this card, I came up with the following cards.

My hand is in the photo here to hold the card flat. Otheriwse it would tip over because of the unique front "cover" of the card. (It is smaller than the back of the card... made by cutting off most of the original base and replacing it with a matted/layered piece.)

Here is another version of the same idea... but the flap of the card opens up (as you can see).

Post for Today...

This is one I put together for my stamping group at church.

This one was for my niece for her birthday. I liked having fun with this glistening zebra print. I am almost out of it now. It is one of those papers that I got 1 sheet of and now wish I had gotten 20... oh well!!!

My Pop's Birthday

The main stamp sets used for this card were "Mark the Date" and "Simple Shapes" from Stampin' Up!

Birthday Fun

Made this one for my sister-in-law and three others like it using different color combinations for friends... I had fun adapting a scrapbooking layout I saw on the cover of a magazine for this card. Finally gave them all away so that I could now post this photo!

Not Mine

This is one of the cards I made at my Stampers 10 group... I thought it was so cool that I would post it here. Jaimie, my wonderful Stampin' Up! demonstrator and friend, had this card set up for us to make... so all accolades go to her! (When are you starting your blog, Girl?) My next post will show a card that I made derived from the layout of this card. Come back now, ya hear?

Well... I suppose if you are reading this, my dear brother, then you have seen the above card. Hopefully, you have received it already in the mail for your birthday. I love ya!

For A Friend!

This card is getting put into the mail tomorrow... so it will be late (my friend's birthday was yesterday). Oh well... Hope she had a happy birthday!

What else?

I am glad that I am branching out. I used to just stamp cards and layer with other stamped stuff and plain paper. I am glad that I now do more coloring, adding accessories, using glitter, ribbons and the such... Here is a birthday card I already sent to a friend's son (who is one year old now and probably has no opinion), but what else might you have done to jazz this one up? Just always looking for more ideas!

(Drumroll...)

Here is the birthday card I made for my mom. I think it turned out pretty good... and it was nice to hear from my mom and pop that they thought it was pretty nice, too.

It uses the same folding/cutting/layout method as the thank you card I just posted. The only different accessory I used was sticky tape holding on the glass beads on the diagonal. Those beads are, again, so simple, but add that touch of elegance, don't you think?

Well, I love my mom... LOTS! And while this card maybe was pretty and nice, I am sure that being serenaded over the phone by my two little guys singing the Happy Birthday song was a better birthday surprise than anything!

Maybe...

Maybe this will be the card that I send to YOU on your birthday!!! I originally made this one for my mom... but then it was not what I wanted to send her. So, here it is (and not even a particularly good picture of it) and it is waiting to be used. I probably will not use it now for a while since it has been posted (you know, so that way it will suprise someone someday).

But let this be a special moment in your day... and really enjoy it, as the card states... it doesn't have to be a birthday to wish someone that, does it?

Cute Set!

Lots of times when I need a child's birthday card, I grab this set from Stampin' Up! (now retired, I believe... Party Animals!) Add some glitter to the design and wah-lah! It is a girl's card! Stick a small page od stickers and there is your surprise for the birthday person!

I have fun with slightly different, yet still simple, folds. I tend to do this with this set to make it more fun for a child to look at it (??? Maybe... I guess I do not know what a child prefers, I guess!) Anyway... there is one for today!

(Surprise, Jaimie!!! Not the cards from Hope Stampers yet! Hee hee!)

Pretties...

The top card is totally patterned paper oriented. I just added the "HB" and "Happy Birthday" that was stamped... along with a few star brads, this card turned out to be pretty spectacular!

The bottom card was my first attempt at using some metal edged tags. These are the ones that are pre-made for you. It was a little hard to stamp the image onto the tag (slippery), but this did not turn out too badly. Also... more glitter!

A couple more...

I really had fun making these... the top one was a first for me to use a patterened paper that dictated the style of the card. I also liked incorporating ribbon, glitter, and colored staples... all NEW things for me (I tend to simple stamping and layering paper).

The bottom card was made for a friend's daughter who graduated from high school. The flap/pocket style of the card was another idea I got from my Stampin' Up! demonstrator and now use it all of the time!
